This is my line art for a line art swap I'm doing with a friend. This is my first time doing a line art swap, or actually doing any challenge thing with another artist. I'm so glad she had the idea, because it was fun and pushed my art skills further.
I'll be posting the colored version on my instagram and twitter, so be on the look out for that! For now, here's the line art that I sent to her:
I ended up making her look less like a traditional “hag” than a weird sorceress. I think there's a very blurry line in my mind between good and evil magic-users, and that's reflected here ;)
I think in the future I'm going to look for more references before I start drawing anything involving human anatomy. You can see in the video below that I had a lot of trouble constructing the right hand. It took so long because I had no reference! At one point I ended up looking at my own hand to get a decent base.
Once I got to the clothes, I started really having fun with the lines and shadows. I absolutely adore solid black shadows, especially for this piece. It reminds me of old-school fantasy characters I learned to draw from back in the day!
I'm looking forward to doing more challenges and making more videos in the future. I've got big plans (and not a lot of time :/) but I think I can do it!
If you have any art challenges you'd recommend, comment below or message me on twitter or instagram. I'd love to hear from you.
